6 operating states to define before charging a battery-powered appliance

Define the host behavior, power source and responsible controller in six charging states before approving simultaneous operation and charging. A charger connector alone does not establish power-path capability.

What to bring to the review

  • Exact battery, host and relevant charger revisions
  • Confirmed requirements, proposed targets and unresolved questions kept separate
  • A responsible owner and evidence location for each decision

6 operating states to define before charging a battery-powered appliance

Use a row with field number, requirement, responsible party, revision, evidence link and decision. Keep the original measurements or documents available to the authorized project team. Mark missing evidence as open; do not replace it with an estimated pass.

  • 1. Input absent: record whether the host operates from the pack and its shutdown behavior.
  • 2. Input connected, host off: identify charging control, termination and the status reported to the host.
  • 3. Input connected, host active: record load priority and the input-current budget shared by the system and battery.
  • 4. Input removed during operation: define the expected transition and the evidence needed to rule out a reset.
  • 5. Battery depleted or unavailable: agree whether startup is supported, inhibited or still undefined.
  • 6. Thermal or protection condition: identify who requests a stop and what permits recovery.

Use the record to make a scoped decision

Create a state-transition table with input state, pack state, host command, expected response, measured response and issue owner. Review connect and disconnect events separately from steady operation. If a state has no agreed owner or criterion, keep it open rather than treating a successful demonstration as acceptance.

Keep acceptance limits explicit

A power-path design example is not approval to operate every appliance while charging. Validate the actual charger, pack, firmware and load configuration.

Technical context and limits

TI compares charger and power-path arrangements and their operating behavior. Use this as technical background for architecture review, not as evidence that a particular appliance or Jinfan pack uses those devices.

Common questions

Does the checklist count specify a product rating?

No. The number counts the fields in this worksheet. It is not a measured result, a quality score, a certification, a minimum order quantity or a promise of delivery time.

What should be shared with engineering first?

Share a non-confidential requirements summary, the relevant revisions and unresolved decisions through Technical RFQ. Agree a suitable private exchange before sending sensitive drawings or customer records.
